AKA Shares Why It’s Hypocritical For SA Hip Hop To Accuse Rappers Of Cultural Appropriation. Rye past few weeks in SA Hip hop have been dominated with views of cultural appropriation mostly aimed at Costa Titch, a number of rappers came to Costa defence including AKA.

Costa has just made a massive breakthrough into the SA Hip Hop industry, from being a dance to becoming a versatile multi-talented rapper. He released an album Made In Africa which consisted of different genres infused and sampled on different tracks including Kwaito, House, AmaPiano and Afro Pop. While with praise the white rapper others felt he was using black culture and black people to market his work.

Rappers such as Stogie T, Maraza and AKA came to Titch’s defence. AKA stated that it’s absurd to blame rappers for SA hip hop appropriation when it copies Anerican culture.

“How can a South African Rapper be accused of cultural appropriation when SA HIP HOP is an appropriation of an American culture,” wrote AKA.
