Drake Pulls Out His Two Grammys Awards Nominations SA Hip Hop Mag
Drake’s latest album, Certified Lover Boy, is the best-selling rap album of the year, but it won’t be honored at the Grammys. Most Hip hop followers were eager to witness who will come out on top between “Drake‘s Certfied Lover Boy” album and Kanye West’s “Donda” considering the so called beef between the two rappers. As it stands its now all doom and gloom as the much anticipated debate between Kanye and Drake will not be settled via the Grammys.
Drake has petitioned that his Grammy nominations be canceled. Variety reported that the Recording Academy made the latest surprising adjustment since nominees were revealed last month, with no rationale offered publicly. Drake was nominated for two awards: Best Rap Album for his album Certified Lover Boy, and Best Rap Performance for his song “Way 2 Sexy.”
It might be unknown why the four-time Grammy winner and his administration revoked the nods for the award, the move comes after the hip hop star spoke out against the Recording Academy after The Weeknd’s high-profile letdowns last year.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” Drake wrote on his Instagram account.
Drake has also expressed dissatisfaction with his prior nominees and achievements. The singer allegedly rejected to present his tape “More Life” for consideration for the 2018 Grammys, citing the Recording Academy’s refusal to recognize him as a rap artist despite the fact that his singles at that period were in the pop genre.
The Recording Academy released the nominations for the 2022 ceremony last Tuesday, as well as increasing the list of contenders in four broad categories from eight to ten in order “to create room for even more music, more artists, and more genres, and to celebrate the idea of inclusivity.”
